The Harelson Chess Team is a competitive club consisting of over 25 members from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Playing chess offers a myriad of benefits for kids, both cognitively and socially. Here are some of the key advantages:

  1. Improves cognitive skills
  2. Develops analytical thinking
  3. Promotes patience and persistence
  4. Fosters sportsmanship and social skills
  5. Builds confidence

The Harelson Chess Team practices every Wednesday before school and has the opportunity to attend numerous tournaments throughout the year. All active members hold membership in the U.S. Chess Federation and are rated players.
